One agency of the Department for Homeland Securities (DHS) is U.S Customs and
Border Protection. It is the number one agency for federal law enforcement. It is used by the
country for border functions and help in regulating trade internally and collection of importation
duties. It is made up of over 45,000 federal agents and officers who are sworn in into offering the
required services. This staff also includes; agriculture specialists, mission-enhancing staff, trade
specialists, canine enforcers, and aircraft pilots. Its headquarters are located at Washington D.C.
To accomplish mission and vision statement the workforce is divided into several categories as;
airport and marine operations, border patrol, field operation, enterprise service, operation
support, the office of trade, the office of chief counsel, congressional affairs among others.
The summary of the CBP functions are minimized into three; a function of protecting
American people, Protecting the national economy and making sure all country affairs are safe.
This is ensured by working towards the mission which goes by; Safeguarding America’s borders
thus protecting the public from danger from people and materials while enhancing
competitiveness in terms of global economy nationally and ensuring trade and travel are done
legitimately. The CBP works to serve as the main law enforcing agency, by this promoting safety
and security nationally prosperity, innovation, and integration through collaborating with
engaged stakeholders.
For the CBP to accomplish the mission and vision statements it has goals and objectives
which help them in watching what they want to accomplish for the mission to appear as it should
be. They plan on innovation, collaboration, and integration as a path to making goals. The first
goal of this agency is to deal with terrorism and transnational crimes; this is by supporting laws
made to control security and keeping the elements of power to consider whenever they do
anything. The second goal is to promote border security and management that is extreme; they
accomplish this through ensuring there is safety in the air, land and marine sectors.
The third goal is to enhance competitiveness in the U.S economic sector by ensuring
lawful trading and traveling. To enhance this, they work with both private and public sectors.
The fourth goal of this agency is to enhance organization integration, agility, and innovation; to
accomplish this; they work towards being efficient through the use of each member capabilities
and the general culture of the agency. However, the agency has come up with objectives to guide
them on what to do to achieve the goals.
One of the objectives is to understand the threat environment, to do this they are expected
to analyze a threat and gauge it with several options as solutions. Another objective is to enhance
relationships in the agency and outside, by this they will be able to do several procedures at ease,
promote interagency relations and coordination when it comes to border enforcement. They also
have an objective of the global supply of security; global supply of security enhances
development in some of the networks which it depends on for their operations. Other objectives
are; increase awareness in the air, land and marine, detect and disrupt illegal operations across
borders, strengthen trade enforcement, identify threats as early as possible, reduce the country
cost on security, promote harmony, proper frameworks, proper organization of workers,
promoting professional growth and pushing for the efficiency of mission and vision statement to
look very effective. Through the mission statement, it is clear that the objectives work towards
addressing issues that may affect this agency’s operations. Issues such as promoting the
effectiveness of the mission may help in making the workers work hard. I would also
recommend that they conduct training to the public on their goals and how to accomplish them;
by this, they will get massive support.
