Intro
Medicine and human physiology fascinated me since I was in middle school. The curiosity I
developed for learning about the functions and dysfunctions of the human body continues to
grow and diversity as my studies in college become more complex. However, when I began to
further my scientific knowledge and take courses in public health; I would dive into the reason
diseases occur in the first place and that would spark my interest into a different world of
medicine. Over the course of taking science and non-science classes I have learned the
importance of research at the University of Maryland. In addition, I find that many teachings
are not taught in depth in lectures and the opportunity that George Washington’s Hospital has
to offer me as an undergraduate student is tremendous. I look forward as an intern to
understand the role of science research and how breakthroughs are made in health which
became my drive to pursue a career in the health field.
Body (2): Transition from education to hands on experience
As a dental assistant, I had the opportunity to be in an atmosphere of helping people in
which it required to promote effective patient education on postoperative and general oral
health care.
My long-term vision builds on my short-term goals and on a desire to contribute to the
knowledge of the field through research.
Closing: Transition of education and hands on experience fits in with the GW’s program
George Washington’s program is a great fit due to its inquiry-based learning approach
